A lucky seeing eye puppy was adopted by a life skills class, and is giving and receiving love and attention until he is mature enough for guide dog training.
Zeppo is a Golden Retriever who has the potential to become a Seeing Eye dog. He is being cared for by life skills classroom teacher Lizabeth Gallagher, and her students in kindergarten to sixth grade at Lake-Noxen Elementary school in Harveys Lake are helping out. He greets the students when they come to class, he cuddles during story time, and sometimes he joins them for a walk outside.
“It’s wonderful,’’ Gallagher said of Zeppo’s interaction with the kids. “He has become part of the class.’’
Gallagher lives in Dallas and has fostered seven Seeing Eye puppies. She is a member of a Seeing Eye puppy club, PawsAbilities. The members raise Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, and Golden Retrievers for 15 months. The dogs are then returned to The Seeing Eye in Morristown, New Jersey where they receive training as guides for blind people.
