Iowa schools are changing a trend of teaching alone, as teachers are invited to lead and collaborate through a program known as TLC.
The Teacher Leadership and Compensation Program, (TLC) is being implemented by the Iowa Department of Education in schools around the state. “The overall goal is to create a culture of collaboration where the teachers are learning from each other, reflecting together and using the expertise of their colleagues to increase student learning,” said Tiffany Hoogestraat, IKM-Manning Community School district TLC coordinator. “They’re all our kids; we’re all working together for them.”
Hoogestraat and an instructional coach, Corey Sebetka work full time on the TLC program. They plan events, professional development, and coach, plan, and co-teach with teachers as they are needed.
