HowtoLearn.com gives the Making a Difference Award to Richard Branson this week for creating Autism Friendly Vacations. Virgin Atlantic Airways currently invites families to visit their training rig, so that they can get used to the environment before they fly. This is invaluable for passengers with autism. The training area looks just like a real check in area and airplane interior.
The founder and director of Autism Parent Empower, J-Ann D’Costa-Manuel,says she has discussed several new initiatives for families with autistic children with Virgin Holidays. Some of the options include training staff in selected locations, and providing detailed information about what to expect so the children and families can be prepared.
Virgin Holidays wants to “enhance our provisions for families with autism throughout their entire holiday” and is considering “various initiatives to assist families with autism who wish to travel”.
