Educational technology makes personalized learning possible, and sometimes it is good business as well.
In Utah, local technology businesses are leading a piece of the revolution of change in education.
Imagine Learning is based in Provo. They offer an individualized learning software platform and cater to English Language Learners and students who struggle with math literacy, from preschool to high school. The company is growing at a rapid rate and expanding its reach.
“We reach about four million kids out there on a weekly basis,” said CEO Joe Swenson.
According to Swenson, Imagine Learning does not replace classroom teachers. Because of the technology, teachers have more time to reach each individual child, as the software pinpoints what concept the child is struggling with.
“In a regular classroom, especially with larger class sizes, you are losing kids at the top, and the kids at the bottom. You’re stuck teaching only to the kids in the middle. But digital education allows you to teach them all where they’re at,” Swenson said.
