Having Fun with Slime

Middle school students are having fun with slime, a type of homemade silly putty which is becoming popular and creating a run on ingredients in some areas.

Having Fun with SlimeThe sticky substance is made from glue, contact solution, borax, and shaving creme. Sometimes glitter and food coloring are added for effect. Office Depot and Office Max are featuring slime making demonstrations in their stores and offering recipes online.

Slime is the startup of middle school social activity for some.  Girls get together to make it, give it as friendship tokens, or sell it. The hashtag #slime has upward of 2.8 million posts.

“I’d rather have them making slime than getting lost in social media,” said Rebecca Sorensen, mother of Annabell, a 12 year old slime enthusiast. “The best part about slime is that it’s so social — it’s glue that puts people together.”
