Students Produce a Bilingual Podcast About a Polish Leader

Seventh graders  Kacper Lazinski, Jacob Kowalczyk and Marcel Slowikowski decided to create the podcast, joined by fellow Hadley seventh-grade student J.D. Thompson.

“It’s a bilingual podcast,” Kacper said. “Part of it is in English, and then it’s translated into Polish so that both communities have an understanding of what we are trying to teach.”

Students presented an overview of their project to a panel of experts, which included Glen Ellyn Historical Society Executive Director Karen Hall.   They also plan to contact some Polish radio stations in the area.

“He’s not known very well, so we just wanted to expand everyone’s knowledge about him,” Kacper said. “He’s an unknown war hero.”

Jacob speaks Polish, which was of great benefit to him when doing the podcast.

“When I was younger, I only spoke Polish,” he said. “But when I grew up, I went to English school, and that made me forget some of the Polish words that I learned because I constantly spoke English.”
