Youngsters are creating a colorful book of history, as they create a coloring book of local history and historic locations in Suffolk, Virginia.
The coloring book is a project of the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society. The idea is to help everyone learn some of the local history while they relax by coloring the images with colored pencils and crayons.
“Coloring books are pretty big now,” said historical society president Sandra Councill “We came up with the idea of a coloring book.”
Middle school art teachers in Suffolk were asked by Councill to recommend students for the project. 12 students were selected. They are researching topics and writing one page histories. They will visit the sites they are writing about and spend several days drawing their subjects in the format of a coloring book.
“I am very impressed with the students,” Councill said.
The book will cover the history of Suffolk from prehistoric times to 1850.
