The 5 day robotics camps are offered at the UT Martin Jackson Center and several other UT Martin extensions. They teach coding and robotics to young students.

“We’re just trying to make them … well-rounded students, because this involves all of your STEM — science, technology, engineering and math,” said UTM Jackson Center Director Kayce Beam. “When they get older, we hope that they stay with STEM and it becomes more natural for them to succeed in those career fields.”

According to Beam, there is an increase in the demand for robotics in the workforce.

At robotics camp, kids learn basic program codes using math, logic, and scientific method.  They combine them, and battle their robots against each other at the end of the week.

“It’s basically using trial and error and scientific method to make … them improve and think,” said Robotics Instructor James Swanger.
