A professional learning community pilot project will be underway this year, made possible with an early dismissal in the works at one school.
The Arkansas Department of Education is partnering with Solution Tree to develop professional learning communities among schools throughout the state. A professional learning community as defined by the ADE is an “ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve.” It focuses on understanding the learning styles and abilities of each student, supporting personalized learning..

According to Assistant Superintendent Cathy Riggins, the grant which supports the professional learning community has three main components: Improving adult and student learning, collaboration within the district, and individual focus on students.
