The new year opened with team building on the first day of school for high school students at St. Lawrence Central High School in Brasher Falls.

Upperclassmen got to work together in various fun activities, including a three-legged relay race where students searched for letters to spell out “Larries.” The students were divided into groups by physical education period, and they rotated through three stations during the afternoon.

Magic carpet was a fun activity.  “We lay a big tarp on the floor. You get to pretend it’s a magic carpet,” said Superintendent Robert A. Stewart.

The goal of the game was for each team to stand on the tarp and flip it over without stepping off the tarp.  The exercise tapped on the creativity in students, and encouraged teamwork.

According to principal Stacy Vincent, the year was beginning with students getting to know each other, and faculty building relationships with the students. “It’s to build our morale and build relationships with students,” said physical education teacher Jenna Chamberlain.
