Fifth grade math ambassadors explain how math works to younger kids, and are finding they learn more by doing so.

At Grimmer Middle School,  teacher Donna Spivak conveys a love of the subjects she teaches to her students in every activity.  She has taught English/language arts for most of her 33 years as a teacher, and for the first time is now teaching math and science.

Fifth grade math ambassadors explain how math works to younger kids, and are finding they learn more by doing so.

Students wont just make a presentation, they are putting together a skit with puppets to teach the concept of volume. The students are writing and practicing skits on volume, showing that volume is length times width time height.

Kaylee’ Phillips said she loves fifth grade and her teacher. “She gives us so many things to do in her classroom,” she said. “Last year, we didn’t do any

mentoring, but we did get a chance to do peer tutoring with our classmates. We tutored each other in math and that was fun.”
