During a presentation of what students learned in science classes, young scientists explained the mysteries of diseases.

At Solvang Elementary School, fourth and fifth graders enrolled in the All are Scholars Academy showed what they learned in presentations, most of which focused on diseases.



At the All are Scholars Academy, all subjects are integrated including the arts. The academy science fair was the first of several planned for the school year. Presentations will focus on student experiments that feature robotics, machinery, app coding, and investigations of communicable diseases.

Students who presented their work to the public on diseases had to defend that they had done to the visitors, who asked them questions and gave them feedback.

“The students’ presentations give them an opportunity to do what scientists do outside of school,” fifth-grade teacher Jennifer Pedersen said.

The school district partnered with Project Lead the Way to develop a STEM program for students in grades K-8.
