Teaching methods are evolving every second of each day and in this age; the wireless age is starting to emerge and utilized in the daily duties of teachers and professors worldwide.
The major new technological advances that are being applied to the teaching methods are the laptop computers, wireless networks with high speed internet and video streaming. For starters, the laptop computers are great for students because of its light weight and mobility feature are great for students in Universities and higher education. These devices are capable of typing up notes during class without the use of pen and paper and it also allow the student to connect to the school’s network and access various scholastic articles and books. This brings us to the wireless networking and the high speed internet.
Nearly everything nowadays is wireless including cable TV, computer components, and etc. The wireless network helps students access many of the materials through a website or a database and with little management being done. With the high speed internet introduced, video streaming of lectures can be shared between students and professors and these can be beneficial to everyone. As a result, these technologies in the classrooms are very helpful.
Laptop computers are now very powerful and equipped with a really large hard drive to store from everything to anything. Laptops can make studying a lot easier by having the books in the hard drive and a student can store multiple books in their laptops and thus eliminate carrying heavy books. This also makes note taking a lot simpler because of the way things can be types and outlined neatly at the same time.
Word processors and PowerPoint presentations are two of the best features laptops offer for the classroom. The word documents can be written and either be printed out or emailed to the professor. PowerPoint presentations can be used for lectures when a laptop is connected to the projector and lectures can be held in a timely manner without struggling to understand the writing of the professor. Maybe students have a hard time reading and deciphering a professor’s hand writing and thus, these students usually lose interest in the topic and try to keep up in just writing what is written in front of them. The transformation of education is slowly evolving with what the current technology is out in the market.
Then, there is the wireless world that is connecting everything and everyone in a timely fashion. For instance, the students can contact their professors or fellow classmates through email or with the use of their mobile phones. In most industrialized regions, all universities and other schools have their own wireless network and the network offers many perks such as “dropboxes” and “wifi”. The wireless internet revolutionized how people stay connected and professors and students can communicate through the web with a simple email. The use of email made the student-teacher relationships into another level that a student can communicate the professor at any time and the teacher can reply back to quick questions and such. The professor can use the email to send out urgent information such as change in syllabus or a reminder of a pending midterm the following week or day. All of these have been made possible by the high speed internet.
With the help of wireless high speed internet, the video streaming can be beneficial during lectures. A teacher can use a video that he or she thinks can be a great supplement to the topic and one can just stream the video online. However, these are not limited to just the computers now. Normal HDTVs are now also capable of connecting to the internet with the use of a small device. These are called Android TV which makes a normal TV into a TV that is capable of doing what a normal computer can do like web browsing and video streaming. Visopix for example can provide a variety of Android dongles and feedback on what they are capable of. A small device can be used to connect to the internet and show the entire class a PowerPoint presentation or stream a video straight from there and continue with their lecture. A person from Japan can learn English from someone in the United States by using online video calling applications such as Skype. This can help others learn a different language from a native speaker and hear them pronounce them as well.
As a result, the use of laptop over a wireless network to stream a video to teach a class can be a very common teaching methods in the future. These advances in technology can be advantageous to everyone, including the developing countries. When one can reach another so easily through email or send school projects through email with such ease to transfer data, these are just a few of the perks of the technology being used in classrooms.
