Spark Math Wins Parent and Teacher Choice Award from HowtoLearn.com
Gold Medal Winner
Math, Tutoring
Want your child to become a math enthusiast? One of our Parent and Teacher Choice Award favorites is the gamified and personalized tutoring program Spark Math.
It’s not often we see a program as unique and ahead of its time as Spark Math. They design each of their classes around real life stories where a math problem emerges. What’s more they include animations and story lines so that students are drawn into the challenge.
We love the personalization along with the unique games, music and sound learning theory approaches which are certain to keep kids motivated and engaged. Upon first expressing interest in the program your child receives a free class along with a diagnostic to determine their skill level.
There are 5 levels in the Spark Math Program and they include kids ages 5 to 10.
Before beginning Spark Math, students are offered a sample of the class they would like and then can choose both the teacher and time, setting 45 minute classes at twice per week.
At Parent and Teacher Choice as learning experts, we always look for multiple learning modalities included in any program. Kids respond best when allowed to process information in multiple ways.
One unique aspect of the Spark Math tutoring program is called the CPA method which includes visual, auditory and tactile methods.
CPA stands for concrete, pictorial and abstract. Kids first convert numbers into a concrete and pictorial method which goes a long way toward developing the math enthusiast you’d always hoped for.
in the pictorial process they convert numbers into pictorial mathematical models which, according to the experts at Spark Math, allows for a better understanding of the process of calculation and to understand and grasp the fundamental principles. Students can then explore the pictorial model independently as the items are movable.
Then lastly in the CPA method is the abstract. They take what they learned and apply it to other problems.
All throughout, there are many places where students hear music, which we know strengthens learning and creates new neural pathways and connections in the brain.
if you’re looking for a unique way to improve your child’s math skills, we’re huge fans of the Spark Math program.
Spark Math is our unanimous choice and wins the Parent and Teacher Choice Award from HowtoLearn.com.
